Alan Mather

Biography

Alan Mather is an experienced digital transformation leader with a strong track record in leading complicated technology programmes across the public and private sectors. 聽He is a recognised pioneer of UK digital government launching the first transactional services such as Self Assessment, UKonline, the Government Gateway and聽Direct.gov.uk.

More recently, he has delivered and/or designed digital services for organisations including Defra, Livestock Information Ltd, National Physical Laboratory and the Home Office. He has held CEO, CIO and COO positions in large organisations and led the turnaround of major programmes.

Alan was also previously a Non-Executive Director in the hospitality and energy sectors.

Board member

Charity Commission Board members are ultimately responsible for all that the commission does. They set the commission鈥檚 values, business direction and strategy and make sure it acts fairly, responsibly, transparently, proportionately and ethically. Board members see that the Commission maintains its integrity and independence. They identify and manage risks and listen and respond to stakeholders.

The Commission鈥檚 Board members also:

  • monitor how the Commission meets its statutory objectives and uses its legal powers
  • consider the Commission鈥檚 management team鈥檚 performance, governance standards and delivery against plans
  • focus on maximising the Commission鈥檚 impact and effectiveness
  • make sure the Commission uses public funds prudently
