The Scottish Anti-Illicit Trade Group

Updated 28 April 2025

The Scottish Anti-Illicit Trade Group (SAITG) was founded in 2014. It is a membership of representatives from the public sector (including law enforcement and government departments), private sector and industry. These representatives share a common goal in tackling illicit trade in Scotland, including Intellectual Property (IP) crime and infringement.

SAITG structure and purpose

The SAITG was reformed in 2025. It has been structured in line with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) Counter Infringement Strategy 2022-2027 and Scotland’s Serious Organised Crime (SOC) Strategy.

The SAITG will work to the IPO Counter-Infringement Strategy themes of: Partnership, Leadership, Education and Scotland’s SOC objectives of: Divert, Deter, Detect, Disrupt.

The SAITG meets regularly to discuss current illicit crime and infringement issues. This enables the group to share emerging threats and trends, share best practice and enable collaboration between a network of stakeholders to identify solutions and disrupt illicit activity.

The group is led by an executive committee made up of senior decision makers across government departments and industry.

If you would like to learn more about the group, please contact the team at saitg@ipo.gov.uk.
