Reporting week 44: 31 October to 6 November 2022
During week 44, acute respiratory infection indicators remained elevated in children aged less than a year old, including emergency department attendances for acute bronchiolitis. There were further decreases in COVID-19-like syndromic indicators.
Remote health advice syndromic surveillance system
During week 44, NHS 111 respiratory calls including cold and flu, cough and difficulty breathing decreased. 鈥楶otential COVID-19鈥� calls and online assessments continued to decrease nationally.

GP in hours syndromic surveillance system
During week 44, GP in-hours consultation rates for upper and lower respiratory tract infections continued to increase in children aged under 1 year old. COVID-19-like consultation rates continued to decrease during week 44, across most age groups and regions.

GP out of hours syndromic surveillance system
Daily GP out-of-hours contact data from 4 August 2022 onwards has not been received due to a widely publicised disruption faced by one of the GP out-of-hours clinical software system providers. We have since been informed that this disruption was as a result of a cybersecurity incident caused by ransomware. We are working closely with our data provider to restore the daily syndromic feed.

Emergency department syndromic surveillance system
During week 44, emergency department (ED) attendances for acute respiratory infection and acute bronchiolitis continued increasing in children aged less than 1 year but decreased across other age groups. Attendances for influenza-like illness were stable overall but increased in those aged 15 to 44 years. COVID-19-like attendances continued to decrease during week 44.

Ambulance syndromic surveillance system
During week 44, difficulty breathing ambulance calls remained stable. Please note: there has been a further decrease in the COVID-19-like syndromic indicator due to ambulance trusts using alternative codes.
